Sarah Long

Sarah Long has been connected to horses since childhood, when they became both her passion and her refuge. She received her first horse for her golden birthday at age eleven and soon joined 4-H, where she excelled in horse bowl and hippology, deepening both her knowledge and respect for horses as teachers and partners.
During a childhood marked by abuse, substance use, mental health struggles, and family instability, horses became Sarah’s constant and saving grace. They offered safety, grounding, and connection when little else felt steady. In high school, Sarah witnessed a profound transformation in her father, who went from active addiction to a career as a social worker. This experience shaped her belief in the power of change, recovery, and compassionate support.
Surrounded by family members and close friends who served in the military, Sarah often heard the phrase, “No one helps the veterans.” From an early age, she felt called to change that—using the one thing she knew could reach people beyond words: horses. These experiences shaped a lifelong mission rooted in lived experience and the belief that no one should have to heal alone.
Sarah’s early adulthood included struggles with addiction of her own, a chapter that reached a turning point in 2007 when she became pregnant with her son, Isaiah Matthew—her salvation and greatest gift. Motherhood marked the beginning of lasting recovery and a renewed commitment to helping others find their way forward.
Today, Sarah brings more than 25 years of experience working with individuals of all abilities and backgrounds, with a specialization in addiction recovery and mental health support. She has been a Certified Peer Specialist since 2012 and an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning since 2019. She founded Heartland Healing With Horses in 2018 and Hope Community Farm in 2020, creating trauma-informed, relationship-based programs where horses and humans heal side by side.
Sarah also holds associate degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, and Supervisory Management, blending heart-centered care with strong organizational leadership. Her work is guided by one core belief: healing happens through presence, trust, and authentic connection—and horses show us the way.
